Spring in sipiwiyiniwak

Spring has arrived in our fair city, which means city crews are out filling potholes, and the Capital City cleanup team (many of them volunteers) are helping spruce up our city after the winter snow.
For some neighbourhoods (Gariepy) it means Neighbourhood Renewal work will start shortly. Neighbourhoods along the West Valley Line LRT alignment (travelling along it) will notice an intensification of work along these routes, including some closures. Please pay attention to notices and give yourselves extra time to travel into the core.
Other things to look forward to — Big Bin Events, the opening of Green Shacks and festival season — are all around the corner. Check your local community league for information, or follow the links below.

Some personal news: I was pleased to receive the King’s Coronation medal at the end of February. Surrounded by some of my dearest friends and family, it was an honour to have some of my contributions to our city and province recognized.
I also announced in March that I would not be seeking a third term as your city councillor; it has been an incredible privilege to serve as your representative over the past eight years. I often tell school groups (or anyone who asks) that my favourite part of this role has been meeting many of you and learning about the interesting things going on in our city; no two days are ever the same. Thank you for trusting me to be your voice all these years.
I do not know what your city council will look like after the October election, but I do know that whoever steps into these roles will do so with a love of our city, and an interest in seeing it grow and prosper.

Accelerating Valley Line West construction in 2025

As a result of the extraordinary amount of feedback the City has received from residents in Ward sipiwiyiniwak and across the entire west end, plans have been launched to accelerate Valley Line West roadworks throughout the 2025 construction season.
While it will mean more lane closures and detours across the alignment, it also means a majority of the roadwork related to Valley Line West will be complete this year, allowing Marigold Infrastructure to fully open lanes and intersections much sooner than anticipated.
Valley Line West is the single largest public works project in our City's history and ranks as one of the biggest current infrastructure projects in Canada. Construction will take time, and patience is certainly appreciated. The result will be a state-of-the-art rail line, connecting the west end with Downtown like never before. Once open, the Valley Line is expected to carry more than 100,000 commuters each day, eliminating hundreds of cars from roads and leading to reduced congestion and pollution.
The Details
The plans involve three different phases, each focusing on a critical area of the Valley Line alignment.
PHASE ONE (April to July)
104 Avenue (105-121 Street) reduced to one lane in each direction - starts April 14
Full closure of the Stony Plain Road/124 Street intersection - starts April 21
Partial closure of the Stony Plain Road/156 Street intersection - starts April 21
Partial closure of the 87 Avenue/Meadowlark Road intersection - starts May 1
PHASE TWO (July to September)
104 Avenue (105-121 Street) remains reduced to one lane in each direction
Partial closure of the Stony Plain Road/142 Street intersection
Partial closure of the 95 Avenue/156 Street intersection
PHASE THREE (September to November)
104 Avenue (105-121 Street) remains reduced to one lane in each direction
Partial closure of the Stony Plain Road/149 Street intersection
Marigold Infrastructure Partners has committed to extending work hours and having dedicated crews at key intersections to maintain their schedule. By the end of 2025, most of the roadwork and trackwork should be completed, with many roads in their final configuration.
